Muhammad, Promoting Better Energy in the Communities
Muhammad, a 50-year-old man living 35 kilometers away from the city of Jember, East Java, has taken on an important role in providing access to better energy to his rural community. Since the introduction of the Awango by Total solar lamp into Indonesia at the beginning of 2011,he has been actively involved in introducing the product to his surrounding community in Meru Betiri National Park, Jember, East Java.
HOW THE JOURNEY BEGINS
Born in Jember in 1964, he started his career as a forest guard in the National Park in Jember. Serving more than fifteen years there, he decided to retire and try his luck as an entrepreneur. In his early years after retirement, he sold fishing equipment at Bande Alit beach, in Meru Betiri National Park, Jember, East Java. He started to work with TATS INDONESIA when the solar lamp from Awango by TOTAL was introduced to the community. He bought the product and became interested in becoming a solar lamp salesman.
To him, introducing the product means providing access to better energy within the community. There is no access to electricity in his surroundings. People in this area use kerosene lamps to light their houses. He introduces the product and describes its advantages. Muhammad is deeply appreciated, as now everyone in Meru Betiri National Park, Jember, East Java can have easy access to energy.
THE JOURNEY CONTINUES
Muhammad has become one of the best solar lamp salesman. He continues to help the community gain access to better energy. He approaches the communities who are still using ordinary energy and invites them to use better energy instead. Thanks to his job as a solar lamp salesman, he is now earning more money and is able to send his children to school.
For me, introducing the solar lamp product of Awango by TOTAL, means providing access to a better energy to the community, specifically in Jember, East Java, Indonesia.
